Number plates of the “AMP” series began to be confiscated in Russia following the legendary “EKH”

According to Mash, 15 such combinations with region code 97 were confiscated in the Moscow region alone.

This series was introduced back in 1996 and was originally intended for cars of high-ranking government officials, providing them with identification and special privileges on the road.

The reason for the withdrawal was that numbers with the 97th region are legally assigned to government and state bodies. At the same time, similar combinations of “AMP” with other codes (for example, 99 and 77), which did not have official status, became popular among car owners as a prestigious and “criminal” accessory. They were often sold on Internet resources at high prices – from 14 to 35 million rubles.

Now it has been decided to remove these numbers from general accounting. Their registration will be canceled, and the letter series “AMP” itself will be sent to the archives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Traffic police officers conduct checks and stop cars to forcibly confiscate such license plates. The sale of these registration plates on Internet sites is also prohibited.
