Porsche Taycan Electrocard set a new Ginnes world record

The car pilot performed the longest drift on ice – 46 minutes of continuous guided drift. This impressive result was achieved in the Arctic Porsche Center in Finland and surpassed the previous record by more than two and a half kilometers. To achieve the record, special tires and low temperature were required.

Porsche announced the entry of Taycan electric car in the Guinness Book of Records. The record was set in the Arctic Center for Porsche in the north of Finland, where the instructor Jens Richter demonstrated impressive control skills, holding Taycan GTS in the controlled skid for 46 minutes. This achievement significantly exceeded the previous record for the duration of drift on ice.

The initial attempts to set the record were unsuccessful due to the rapid destruction of the ice surface with the tires of the electric car. Therefore, special tires with a shortened spike were used for the test race, which made it possible to provide the necessary adhesion to the surface of the ice and avoid premature damage to the track.

The race was carried out in the evening, when the air temperature was low enough to ensure optimal conditions. As a result, Taycan GTS overcame 17.5 kilometers, making 132 circles along the ring track with a diameter of 59 meters.

In 2020, Porsche already set a record record for Taycan, but then it was a race on the asphalt using a version with the rear -wheel drive.

Earlier, the Guinnesses record set another electric car-Hyundai Ioniq 5. This hatchback with one electric motor and battery with a capacity of 72.6 kilowatt-hours overcame the largest height difference in one trip, driving along the highest-hill asphalt road in the world. The height difference was 5802 meters.
