Record sales Geely in China: he overtook Toyota in popularity

At the beginning of the year, the automotive market traditionally takes a decline in activity, and this is characteristic not only for Russia, but also for China. However, in 2025, January turned out to be a very successful month for Geely. In her native China, Mark has implemented 152 thousand cars, which is a record indicator over the past eight years, that is, since 2017, and the second result in the history of Geely.

Among all the car brands, Geely took the third line, letting forward the unattainable by the BYD (181.9 thousand cars) and Volkswagen (171.9, thousand pieces). At the same time, Geely managed to overtake the Japanese Toyota, the result of which is 123.4 thousand cars. The fifth line went to Changan (72.3 thousand pieces). In the second half of the rating in terms of sales, positions were distributed as follows: on the sixth – Honda (69.6 thousand pieces), on the seventh – Wuling (66.9 thousand pieces), on the eighth – Chery (66.1 thousand pieces), on the ninth of the ninth – Audi (52.8 thousand pieces), and closes the BMW list (52.49 thousands of pieces).

Geely Monjaro, which has been present on the market for four years, unexpectedly showed the best result for its entire existence: the sales amounted to 29 thousand pieces. For the entire 2024, 219 thousand new Monjaro were registered in China, and total sales since the summer of 2021, that is, from the moment of launch of the model, approached the mark of 600 thousand copies.

The Chinese Cars portal with reference to sales statistics notes that according to the results of January, Geely Monjaro became the bestseller of the Chinese market. The second place in the overall rating for models also went to Geely, it was taken by the Xingyuan hatchback with a result of 28 thousand cars. Next are Tesla Model Y, Volkswagen Sagitar and Wuling Hongguang Mini EV.

If we talk about the sales of new cars in Russia, then in January 2025 the market volume amounted to 89,072 cars-by 11 percent more than in the same month of 2024. Geely took the fourth line in the overall rating of stamps with a result of 6.2 thousand cars, missing the Lada, Haval and CHECH. In the top 10, according to the models, Geely Monjaro turned out to be the eighth (2.3 thousand copies).
