Information has spread online that on April 1, 2026, new traffic rules supposedly came into force in Russia, according to which a fine for speeding is now imposed if the threshold of 10 km/h is exceeded. However, this information is not true, reports TV Channel 360.
“In fact, there was no change in the speed threshold after which fines are issued,” the publication says.
“MK Novosibirsk” writes that from April 1, 2026, the traffic police introduced a new approach to speeding within the range of 10-20 km/h. The department emphasized: there are still no automatic fines for such a violation – liability occurs only when exceeding more than 20 km/h. The range of 10−20 km/h is allocated for analytics. The Scientific Center for Road Safety of the Ministry of Internal Affairs explained: this will allow targeted work with emergency areas – near schools, crossings and in residential areas, where even a slight excess is critical. Pilot projects in the regions have already shown a decrease in accident rates where drivers have become more attentive to speed.
The traffic police of the Chechen Republic also denied massive changes in traffic rules. Thus, information about reducing the non-fine threshold for speeding from 20 to 10 km/h from April 1, 2026 does not correspond to reality.
