Russian craftsmen have made a pickup-tow truck out of a BMW 3 Series hatchback

A tow truck based on the E46 generation BMW 3 Series hatchback is up for sale in Yekaterinburg. As Motor magazine clarified, the project was created for the transportation of ATVs. The creators of the car did not document the alteration, so it is impossible to register the car to the new owner.

The cost of the tow truck is 480 thousand rubles. Under the hood lies a 116-horsepower 1.8-liter engine, which is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.

It is known that the tow truck received a rear suspension supplemented with air springs from the BMW 5 Series E39. The sliding platform is equipped with a hydraulic drive for easy loading of equipment.

In 2024, BMW itself put an end to the idea of a pickup truck. BMW Senior Vice President of Brand and Product Management Bernd Körber said in an interview with BMW Blog that there will not be a luxury truck in the brand’s lineup.

According to Kerber, such a model does not correspond to the image of the company, whose task is to create dream cars. However, in Munich they are considering the possibility of creating another practical car – a full-fledged SUV.
