Sales of premium foreign cars from Europe and the USA have increased in Russia

Russians continue to buy European, American and Japanese cars, and demand for them in 2024 has increased compared to 2023, the Izvestia newspaper reports, citing data from Avtostat-Info. An example is BMW, whose global sales fell by four percent, while in Russia last year 30 percent more Bavarian cars were sold than the year before. They are supplied to our country unofficially, through parallel imports.

In 2024, Russians bought 11,755 new BMW cars, brought to Russia on parallel routes without the permission of the Bavarian automaker. The company even applied sanctions to employees in Germany who were involved in the supply of cars to the Russian market – they lost their jobs.

German cars of other brands are also bought in Russia: for example, sales of Mercedes-Benz increased by 1.7 percent last year, to 6,984 cars. In the premium segment, growth was noted by Porsche (two thousand cars, +15.6 percent), Lamborghini (150 supercars, +32.7 percent), Rolls-Royce (150 units, +74.7 percent), Land Rover (2336 units ., +12.8 percent) and Bentley (175 cars, +19.9 percent).

Despite the sanctions, Russians continue to choose American cars. Over the past year, 1,662 new RAM cars and 118 Ford F-Series pickups were registered in Russia. Sales of some brands are even higher than they were before the sanctions. Among these is Japanese Honda, which at the end of 2024 showed 100 percent growth: 2,733 cars were registered.
