Japanese firm Sony first announced its automotive ambitions at the CES 2020 consumer electronics show in Las Vegas. But, having no experience in the automotive industry, the company attracted an industrial partner in the person of Honda Corporation, and, as a result, the partners created the joint venture Sony Honda Mobility.
At CES 2023, the partners presented an electric car under the new Afeela brand. The market debut of the Afeela 1 model was expected in 2026, with pre-production production of such machines at a plant in Ohio.
Potential customers even managed to name the prices – $102,900 for the flagship Signature version and $89,900 for the more affordable Origin variation, which they planned to transfer to customers in 2027.
The project is now closed. For the struggling Japanese automaker, it is now more important to focus on steam production of fuel models that are in strong demand.
