Spending by Russians on used cars has been revealed

According to Autostat, in November 2024, Russians spent 584.9 billion rubles on used cars. This is an increase of 17.9 percent over the same month in 2023. About 40 percent of all funds were spent on cars older than 10 years. That is, 234.8 billion rubles were spent on them per month – this is 22.6 percent more than in November last year.

About 30 percent of all money spent in November went on cars under five years old – 179 billion rubles (plus 9.9 percent by November 2023). Russians spent the remaining 20.7 percent of the funds (171.1 billion) on cars aged five to nine years (plus 20.7 percent).

Most of all in the Russian Federation they spend on used “Europeans” and “Japanese”. The former spent 202.3 billion, the latter – 183.9 billion. Resold Korean cars cost another 85.7 billion rubles.

The greatest growth was shown by spending on used “Chinese” cars: they grew 2.1 times, to 26.1 billion rubles. Their share in the structure of the secondary market is still small – only 4.5 percent. When it comes to body types, crossovers and SUVs continue to be the most popular, with 47.8 percent of money spent on them.

In general, over the 11 months of 2024, Russians bought 6.3 trillion rubles worth of used cars. This is more than for the entire 2023, the figure of which is 5.8 trillion.

Since the beginning of the year, 4.23 trillion rubles have been spent on new cars. Crossovers and SUVs cost 3.4 million, and October became the “money” month. November ended with a decline in both sales and revenue, which analysts had warned about.
