The head of the department for work with importers, Alexander Kornev, in a conversation with TASS, emphasized that crossovers make up less than half of the Russian car market.
“In total, 49.6 thousand Russian cars were sold in April, 16 thousand or 48% more than a year ago. At the same time, the share of domestic transport in the passenger segment was 43% (+10 p.p. per year). This was enough to be 2 percentage points ahead of the “Chinese,” Kornev said.
According to him, crossovers still make up less than half of the Russian segment: in April, their sales reached 24.3 thousand units. The main market share is occupied by budget sedans and station wagons. At the same time, sales of domestic all-terrain vehicles are actively growing – in April they increased by 161% thanks to the Lada Niva and the appearance of new SUVs from Tenet.
According to the auto expert’s forecast, in May the share of domestic brands will increase by another 1-2 percentage points due to a reduction in Chinese exports and an increase in sales of new Russian brands. At the same time, in absolute numbers, sales volumes may decrease by 3-5% due to the large number of holidays.
