The BMW Blog portal claims that by August 2026, the two-door G87 will switch to the uncontested xDrive transmission. Insiders believe: the transition from rear-wheel drive to all-wheel drive means abandoning the 6-speed manual transmission in favor of a classic 8-speed automatic, as well as a serious increase in price. The life cycle of the BMW M2 will end in July 2029: then the era of non-hybrid cars will end.
Currently, BMW offers only the M2, the base M3 and M4, and the Z4 M40i convertible as manuals. However, the days of three-pedal emoks are numbered: a farewell edition was released in some countries, and a representative of the Bavarian brand made it clear back in the winter that it is not economically feasible to improve a manual gearbox.

It is assumed that before the end of production, BMW will prepare a whole galaxy of special versions with “mechanics”. The process is already underway: for example, 30 special M2s with a manual transmission will be made for Mexico. And although three-pedal cars are still in the configurator, the situation can change at any time.
Currently, the rear-wheel drive BMW M2 in Germany costs from 76,600 euros for the manual version. For comparison, for the all-wheel drive M3 Competition xDrive and M4 Competition xDrive you need to pay 105.3 and 107.3 thousand euros, respectively. If the insider is confirmed, then the “two” will become significantly more expensive and will lose a fair amount of its charm.
