The Chinese crossover DFSK ix5 has changed its name in Russia, and here’s why

DFSK ix5 has been presented on the Russian market since February 2024: a batch of such cars was produced at the Kaliningrad Avtotor (several thousand cars were assembled there), and then production was launched at the facilities of the Motorinvest plant in the Lipetsk region. Recently there was a change of distributor, and the DFSK ix5 model moved to the Ixen Motors Rus line, simultaneously changing its name to Dongfeng Fengon ix5.

To understand the name DFSK ix5/Dongfeng Fengon ix5, it’s worth turning to the automaker’s genealogy. There is a joint venture between Dongfeng and Sokon (the latter owned by Seres Group), and the JV’s vehicles are sold under the sub-brand DFSK, an acronym derived from their names. Fengon, in turn, is an export sub-brand of Sokon, used to sell cars on the European market. Initially, the ix5 was sold in Russia under the DFSK brand, although even at the time of launch, journalists were shown cars with Fengon emblems.

Motorinvest confirmed the release of two Dongfeng models with internal combustion engines Dongfeng improved DFSK ix7 for Russia Dongfeng announced the cost of DFSK 500 in Russia: less than 2 million rubles

The DFSK ix5 was – and will continue to be – sold through the Dongfeng dealer network, and the Dongfeng Fengon ix5 will become part of the line of vehicles sold through Ixen Motors Rus dealers. And, although this is the same model, Fengon ix5 costs a little less: 2,050,000 rubles for the only available configuration, and taking into account marketing programs – 1,850,000 rubles. DFSK ix5 can be purchased for 2,390,000 rubles.

One way or another, the ix5 is a mid-size coupe-shaped crossover, comparable in size and form factor to the Haval F7x. It has 200 mm ground clearance, and under the hood is a one and a half liter turbo engine producing 137 horsepower. Gearbox: variator, front-wheel drive.

Equipment for the Dongfeng Fengon ix5 includes 18-inch wheels, “winter” options (heated front seats, rear window and exterior mirrors), electrically adjustable driver and passenger seats, front and rear parking sensors and a rear view camera. There is also a 10.25-inch infotainment screen and a six-speaker audio system.
