The premiere of a new car will take place at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2026, reports a source from the TASS agency. It is still unknown who will help resume production, which has been idle for almost four years. But it is known that the production volume will be about a thousand vehicles annually.
After the Japanese automaker left Russia in the spring of 2023, the plant passed to a new owner – the FSUE NAMI Institute, subordinate to the Ministry of Industry and Trade. In 2024, the asset was transferred again, but now to a domestic company that produces Aurus premium cars.
The enterprise was supposed to come out of shutdown by the end of 2024 – it was planned to produce cars provided by the Hongqi brand at the site, but this did not happen. Last spring, the company began hiring workers, including engineers and managers.
“The partnership model will be announced at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum,” TASS quotes an informed source as saying. According to the chairman of the Committee on Industrial Policy, Innovation and Trade of St. Petersburg, the launch of the conveyor is scheduled for mid-2026.
