The former Mitsubishi plant in Kaluga received parts for Chinese Haval

As Rossiyskaya Gazeta found out, the plant, which now operates under the guise of Automotive Technologies, has received vehicle kits for the production of M6 crossovers. Previously, this enterprise was called “PSMA Rus” and produced Mitsubishi, Peugeot, Citroen and Opel cars. After Mitsubishi and Stellantis left Russia, the plant was transferred to a new owner, and the assembly of the Citroen C5 Aircross from Chinese components was organized there.

The fact that Haval decided to transfer production of the M6 model from its Tula plant to the Kaluga site of Automotive Technologies became known at the end of last year. The M6 is one of the most affordable models of the Chinese brand on the Russian market; as of mid-January 2025, it costs from 2,279,000 rubles (the price is for cars produced in 2024). A compact crossover with a length of 4.66 meters and a wheelbase of 2.68 meters is offered with a 1.5 engine producing 143 horsepower in conjunction with “mechanics” or “robot”. Front-wheel drive only.

The Russian police have started purchasing another Haval assembled in Tula. Now it’s official: the Haval M6 will be “registered” at the former Russian Mitsubishi plant. A Russian blogger dismantled the new Haval, clearly showing the shortcomings

As for the plant in Kaluga, which was formerly known as PSMA Rus, it was a joint venture between Stellantis and Mitsubishi. Until the spring of 2022, it produced Peugeot 408 and Citroen C4, light commercial vehicles Peugeot, Opel and Citroen, minivans and compact vans Peugeot Partner, Citroen Berlingo and Opel Combo, as well as Mitsubishi Outlander and Pajero Sport. In the spring of 2022, the site went idle, and at the end of 2023 it was transferred to the Automotive Technologies company.

The plant came out of shutdown in the spring of 2024, when the Citroen C5 Aircross crossover, the vehicle kits for which were supplied from China, entered the assembly line.

The new management of the enterprise intends to expand the portfolio: in addition to the Haval M6, they may begin to produce the B9 “heeled” model, also known as the Peugeot Partner – this model appeared in one of the workshops in early January of this year.
