The coming year for the Russian automobile industry will be more difficult than 2024, writes TASS with reference to the Minister of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov. There are several reasons: the increasing pressure of sanctions and changes in the macroeconomic climate, due to which consumer activity is declining. According to the plan, 1.3 million passenger cars will be sold in Russia next year. This is less than in January-November this year.
By the end of the year, the Ministry of Industry and Trade noticed a “gradual slowdown” in demand for cars in Russia. The car loan market is also shrinking.
In 2025, according to the automotive industry development strategy, 1.577 million new cars should be sold in Russia. Of these, 1.3 million are passenger cars, less than 100 thousand are light commercial vehicles. The production volume approved in the strategy is 1.1 million cars.

However, Alikhanov noted that it will be possible to achieve these levels if macroeconomic factors do not negatively affect the production and purchasing power of Russians.
During January-November 2024, Russians bought 1.45 million passenger cars, as calculated by Autostat. This is 54.1 percent more than in the same period in 2023. The most active month was October, and November was marked by a noticeable decline—by almost a third.
