The official UAZ dealer in Germany explained the success of the Loaf in Europe

The Drom.ru portal talked with Dmitry Schwab: a German citizen who founded the Made in Russia company in Bavaria and was involved in sales of Russian cars. Before the introduction of sanctions, the businessman was a Lada and UAZ dealer in the European Union, engaged in the maintenance and preparation of domestic cars. Dmitry Shvab remembered the rush demand for “Loaves” and named several reasons.

According to the founder of Made in Russia, the European Union has run too far ahead in the development of the automotive industry, and modern cars have lost their zest. Soviet models like “Loaf” or “Niva” cannot be confused with anything. And so they aroused interest everywhere in Germany. At some point, there was a waiting list for UAZ products in Europe: from the moment of ordering to receiving the car, at least a year passed!

Dmitry Shvab believes that the “Loaf” is an underrated and unfinished car, even in Russia. In terms of size, the minivan is superior to the Volkswagen Multivan: the Soviet single-volume vehicle is wider inside. The advantage of the UAZ is that you can sleep crosswise in it; this is not possible with your classmates. Finally, the “Loaf” is very charismatic and reminiscent of the VW T1.

Strange Zhigulis and UAZs for Europe How and with what UAZ tried to replace the Bukhanka Hangar of canceled UAZs

The Ulyanovsk car is very simple, and the Germans have a need to delve into technology. They realize themselves with the “Loaf”, because you can’t really dig into modern cars. You can also modify the UAZ yourself and turn it into a motorhome. Many clients like to retrofit the salon themselves, and in “Bukhanka” this is elementary. And registering as an RV reduces your taxes.

As for the outdated design of the Loaf, compliance with European standards was achieved simply: the car was certified under category N1, like a truck. The UAZ met Euro 6 requirements for trucks and had an ABS system, so the modifications amounted to moving the turn signals half a meter lower: this is required by German law.

The problem of poor quality assembly of the “Loaf” was avoided by German clients, because Dmitry Shvab meticulously carried out pre-sale preparations. The car was completely disassembled, internal anti-corrosion was made, fender liners were installed, seams were taped, and additional noise and vibration insulation was made upon request. Alas, since 2022 the UAZ plant is under sanctions as a manufacturer of military equipment, so further supplies to the European Union are not possible.
