The volume of exports of Chinese cars to Russia has set a record

Over the past year, passenger cars worth a total of $15.2 billion were exported to the Russian Federation, Interfax writes, citing data from the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China. This is 30.5 percent more than in 2023. The most active months were August and September: exports jumped before a sharp increase in rates [утильсбора](https://motor.ru/news/utilsbor-01-10-2024.htm), which was announced by the Ministry of Industry and Trade back in July.

At the end of last year, the volume of Chinese car exports began to fall. In December, it fell 3.7 percent compared to November, to $1.38 billion. This was the third month of decline in a row, following a surge in August-September. Then the amount reached the maximum 1.8 billion.

Although the Chinese have surpassed KamAZ in the heavy truck market, supplies of trucks in 2024 have decreased. Their volume fell by 12.4 percent, to $2.7 billion.

In parts, exports jumped 29.5 percent last year to $2.65 billion. In December alone, nearly $260 million worth of components were imported from China, which is 2.9 percent more than in November and a record figure for the year.

Meanwhile, Russia has almost run out of inexpensive locally produced foreign cars. These include Hyundai Solaris, Kia Rio, Renault Logan and Duster, as well as Volkswagen Polo and Skoda Rapid, which were assembled in Russia. There are practically none left for sale at dealers.
