There is a new leader in the list of best-selling cars in Europe

According to Dataforce, in 2024, for the first time in history, the Dacia Sandero took first place in the best-selling ranking in the European market. Over 12 months, Europeans bought 270,111 units – the calculations took into account sales of the model in the EU, the countries of the European Free Trade Association (Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland) and the UK. Compared to 2023, Sandero sales volumes increased by 14.3 percent.

Dataforce claims that Dacia Sandero has never risen to first place in the ranking before. The model led sales in the first half of 2024, and experts attribute this to its low cost compared to its competitors. For example, in France, prices for Dacia Sandero start at 12.99 thousand euros (1.35 million rubles at today’s exchange rate). Dacia manages to maintain a competitive price thanks in part to its refusal to electrify.

In Russia, a record number of used cars were sold in 10 years. The leader of the Russian foreign car market has changed. Russians continue to buy premium foreign cars of European and American brands.

In second place in the European ranking in 2024 was the Renault Clio, which sold 216,569 units – this is 6.5 percent higher than the result of 2023. The top three was closed by the Volkswagen Golf (216,549 units, +17.5 percent). The Tesla Model Y crossover, which took first place in 2023, immediately dropped to fourth position – its sales fell by 17.5 percent, to 210,484 units.

Fifth place went to the Volkswagen T-Roc (203,611 units, -1.5 percent), sixth – Peugeot 208 (199,820 units, +2.7 percent), seventh – Volkswagen Tiguan (195,297 units, +12.1 percent) , eighth – Toyota Yaris Cross (194,512 units, +10.1 percent), ninth – Skoda Octavia (182,801 units, +13.3 percent), and tenth – Toyota Yaris (180,806 units, +13.8 percent).

The Association of European Automobile Manufacturers, in turn, reports that the share of Dacia sales in Europe in 2024 was 4.5 percent. According to this indicator, the Romanian brand, owned by the Renault Group, surpassed the Korean Hyundai and Kia, whose share is 4.1 percent.
