Topspeed: 10 Japanese cars named that handle better than the Porsche 911

The German sports car has long been considered the standard of handling, starting at $120 thousand. However, as the portal’s authors write, “despite its amazing driving qualities and impressive lineup of models, some Japanese cars are simply more fun to drive.”

Opens the list with the Nissan GT-R. This car is equipped with a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 producing 565 hp. and 467 Nm of torque. Acceleration to 100 km/h takes just 2.9 seconds. The authors write: “This is one of the fastest Japanese sports cars ever made, making it a lot of fun on both the road and the track.”

Next up is the Toyota Supra. It returned to the market after a long hiatus and became an immediate hit. The modern version is available with a manual transmission, which is very rare in the world of automatics. She’s fast, sassy and a lot of fun. Pros: powerful turbo engine, affordable manual transmission, suspension comfortable for everyday driving. Cons: cramped interior for large drivers, poor visibility and not the most comfortable seats on a long journey.

The Acura NSX Type S is a hybrid, mid-engine supercar designed to compete directly with Ferrari. As journalists write, the NSX shows what Japanese engineering is capable of, combining advanced technology, precise tuning and exciting dynamics.

The Subaru WRX STI isn’t the fastest on this list, but it may be one of the most exciting. This sedan is designed for dirt tracks and rally stages. “This is as much fun as you can have,” the authors say ironically.

The Lexus LC 500 is a different approach to everything. Its luxurious interior, stylish design and smooth, compliant ride make it the perfect long-distance travel companion. It doesn’t chase the 911 for seconds, but it gives pleasure from the driving process itself.

The Mazda RX-7 holds a special place in Japanese car culture. Its 1.3-liter rotary engine with twin-turbo supercharging produces 276 hp. and 217 Nm of torque. Acceleration to 100 km/h – 4.8 s. Mazda proves that you don’t need huge horsepower to have fun: the right formula is light weight and unique character.

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution (Evo) is a rally monster in a sedan. All-wheel drive, a powerful turbo engine and settings that allow you to “fly” on any surface. Pros: quick reactions, crushing power. Cons: Budget build quality, stiff suspension and outdated technology.

Nissan 370Z and Nissan Z are combined into one position. Both cars offer classic rear-wheel drive driving at an affordable price. 370Z with a 3.7-liter V6 with 332 hp. accelerates to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds. The modern Nissan Z with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 produces 400 hp, acceleration to “hundreds” is 3.9 seconds.

The Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR86 are a pair of twins that share the same platform. Better handling and excellent habits allow them to please the driver at every turn.

Rounding out the list is the Mazda MX-5 Miata. This little roadster has been in production for over three decades. It’s not fast or powerful, but its balance and handling make it a great car on par with its classmates, including the Porsche 911.
