Topspeed lists 10 reliable Japanese motorcycles for the city

Unlike in the West, where the motorcycle is often seen as a weekend toy, in Asia it is a working tool for daily commuting on dense and narrow streets. That is why Japanese manufacturers have relied on practicality and reliability. The Topspeed rating includes models from Kawasaki, Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha – from light enduro to touring hybrids.

In first place is the Kawasaki KLX300. It’s a lightweight enduro with a 292cc engine, six-speed gearbox and off-road suspension. For asphalt lovers, the KLX300 SM version with 17-inch alloy wheels is available.

Next up is the Kawasaki Z500, a 500cc naked bike. The motorcycle is characterized by economical consumption, low seating and low weight.

Third on the list is the Honda CB750 Hornet E-Clutch. This is a mid-sized naked bike with a 90-horsepower engine and proprietary E-Clutch technology, which allows you to change gears without pressing the clutch.

The fourth place is occupied by the Suzuki SV650 – one of the most reliable motorcycles for daily riding. V-twin 70 hp provides traction throughout the entire rev range, and its compact dimensions and upright seating position ensure comfort.

In fifth place is the Yamaha MT-07. Yamaha bestseller in the West. The light and comfortable motorcycle with a 70-horsepower CP2 engine has received electronic upgrades and retained an affordable price.

Sixth in the ranking was the Honda CBR650R. A rarity in its class, it features an inline-four with nearly 95 hp, a two-way quickshifter and E-Clutch technology as standard. The motorcycle is not the sharpest model on the track, but an excellent option for the city.

In seventh place is the Honda Rebel 1100 DCT. A cruiser with a 1084 cc engine and a double-disc clutch (DCT) that automatically changes gears. The model has a comfortable low seating position, but there is no room for a passenger.

The eighth position was taken by the Honda NT1100. Touring motorcycle with DCT. Ergonomics are borrowed from the Africa Twin model: low, large seat, adjustable windshield.

In ninth place is the Kawasaki Z 7 Hybrid. The world’s first powerful hybrid motorcycle. You can drive in electric mode, with an internal combustion engine or in hybrid mode. The six-speed transmission has a fully automatic mode. Fuel savings are colossal.

Rounding out the top ten is the Honda Africa Twin DCT. A full-size bike for daily commuting and weekend off-roading. DCT makes traveling in traffic jams easy, and the reliability of the technology has been proven over the years. The 1084 cubic centimeter engine produces about 100 hp.
