Toyota introduced an old-school three-row crossover based on the Hilux Camp

The new product, called Hilux Rangga SUV, is aimed at the Indonesian market – it will appear there in 2025. The basis was taken from an affordable Hilux Camp frame pickup truck, which was converted into a crossover designed for seven people. The model has only rear-wheel drive, and there are two engines to choose from: a two-liter gasoline and a 2.4-liter turbodiesel. The crossovers will be produced by the Indonesian body company New Armada, and the volumes will be small – about 50 cars per month.

According to CNN Indonesia, the Hilux Rangga SUV is based on the IMV platform, designed for different types of powertrains, including gas, hybrid and even all-electric. However, the model will not have “green” versions, at least for now. Indonesians will be offered two modifications: with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 139 horsepower and with a 1.4-liter turbodiesel with 149 horsepower. The gearbox is a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic, the latter available only in the most expensive version with a diesel engine. Rear-wheel drive.

The crossover has a three-row interior with a 2+3+2 seating arrangement, and the exterior design is almost exactly the same as the concept presented at the Indonesia Motor Show in October this year. It was then reported that the car’s appearance was inspired by the Toyota FJ Cruiser: it has an angular and sometimes disproportionate body, a massive front bumper made of unpainted plastic, roof rails and a short hood.

The Toyota Hilux Rangga pickup truck costs in Indonesia from 188.7 to 299.2 million Indonesian rupees (1.23-1.95 million rubles), but the crossover turned out to be significantly more expensive – 400-500 million rupees depending on the version (from 2. 6-3.25 million rubles).

Toyota remains the leader in the Indonesian market: since the beginning of 2024, the Japanese brand has sold almost 268.3 thousand cars in the country. In second place is Daihatsu, controlled by it, with a result of 155 thousand cars sold, and Honda closes the top 3 (92.3 thousand cars sold).
