Toyota sales have greatly decreased in Japan, and that’s why

According to the results of 2024, the demand for brand products in the domestic market fell by almost 20% to 1.85 million units. There are several reasons for the Japanese cooling to Toyota. Firstly, fraud with diesel engines became the public. Secondly, violations surfaced during car certification, which was due to which the conveyors of many models had to be stopped, including the popular Prius.

The fall in Japan affected general statistics: according to the results of 2024, Toyota realized 10.8 million cars (the Toyota, Lexus, Daihatsu and Hino models were taken into account, which is 3.7% less than the result of 2023. However, this did not prevent auto giant from keeping the first line in the world ranking. Toyota cars are successfully sold in the main market in the USA (+4.3%), demand in Europe (+3.6%) and in the Middle East (+3.2%) is growing.

The year in Asia was unsuccessful: sales fell in China (-6.9%), in Indonesia (-9.5%) and Thailand (-17.1%)-competition with Chinese stamps is increasing in these countries. In the segment of “clean” electric vehicles, Toyota has nothing to boast of: the share of such machines in the total sales volume is only 1.4%. But self -loading hybrids make up 38% of sales, and in the aggregate electrified cars occupy 42% of the portfolio.

Toyota remains the largest car manufacturer in the world for the fifth year in a row, ahead of Volkswagen and Hyundai. Rav4 and Corolla remain world bestsellers of auto giant. Although the Japanese brand continues to produce Mirai hydrogen sedans, the project remains image: for a year, buyers found only 1778 cars on fuel elements.
