Toyota Motor Company is investing $3.6 billion to modernize its plant in San Antonio, Texas. This is necessary to transfer production of the popular Toyota Tacoma mid-size pickup trucks from Mexico to the United States.
The production of Tacoma in Tijuana, Mexico will be completely stopped, and until the start of American assembly, cars will continue to be made by another Mexican assembly line – in the city of Guanajuato.
As for the transfer of production to the United States, such a reshuffle will allow the model to avoid duties on imported goods introduced by the Donald Trump administration.
The fourth generation Toyota Tacoma debuted in the spring of 2023. The vehicle retained its frame structure, but moved to the modern unified TNGA-F platform.
The base is a 2.4-liter gasoline turbo-four with a return of 231 hp. and 329 Nm, but there are also forced versions of this engine with 274 (420 Nm) and 282 hp. (430 Nm).
