Volkswagen owners sued the concern because of the “oil-guzzling” of popular engines

We are talking about cars with the EA888 2.0-liter turbo engine, which is widespread in the United States. According to Carscoops, excessive oil appetite can lead to serious damage to the unit.

The lawsuit, filed in New Jersey, covers model years 2018-2026. Such mass-produced cars as the Volkswagen Tiguan, Atlas, Passat, Jetta GLI, as well as the Audi Q3, Q5 and Q7 were targeted.

The plaintiffs claim that the problem lies in defective piston rings. Because of them, excess oil enters the combustion chambers. This, in turn, leads to carbon deposits that cause the crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve to stick. The pressure inside the engine increases, and seals and gaskets begin to leak.

The chain reaction, according to the applicants, is not limited to small leaks. As a result, plastic oil pans may burst, valve covers may leak, and spark plugs may fail.

The outcome of this proceeding does not guarantee the owners compensation. A year ago, a similar lawsuit regarding the same engines was rejected. The judge found that the Alabama plaintiff failed to prove that her car was unroadworthy.
