Inflated prices apply to almost all Japanese, German and Korean cars sold in Russia until 2022. This was stated by expert of the magazine “Behind the wheel” Sergei Zinoviev. He compiled a list of bestsellers that are sold at a serious premium on the secondary market.
The expert calls the Toyota RAV4 one of the main examples of overestimation. A ten-year-old crossover with a mileage of 140 thousand kilometers costs an average of 2.3 million rubles, and reaches a maximum of 3.2 million. But, according to Zinoviev, only versions with hydraulic automatic transmission are worth the money – with a 2.5 engine or a diesel engine. Modifications with a CVT are overpriced by at least 200 thousand rubles.
Second on the list is the third generation Kia Rio. Technically, this is a twin of the Hyundai Solaris, but for some reason the prices are different. For a ten-year-old Rio they ask for an average of 950 thousand rubles, while Solaris can be found for 900 thousand. The difference is 50 thousand rubles – and this despite the fact that Solaris was developed specifically for Russia, and Rio is positioned as an international model.

A similar story is observed in the pair Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage. The crossovers have the same technical features, but the Tucson on the secondary market is 110 thousand rubles more expensive: 1.9 million versus 1.79 million for the Sportage. The expert does not find a reasonable explanation for this overpayment.

Another pair of relatives is the Skoda Octavia and Volkswagen Jetta. They are built on the same platform, equipped with the same engines and gearboxes, and their body length is completely the same. However, the Octavia with a liftback offers 50 liters more luggage space and costs 100 thousand rubles more – 1.3 million versus 1.2 for the Jetta. The only question is whether the audience is ready to overpay that kind of money for an additional fifty liters.

Finally, the eleventh generation Toyota Corolla was also on the overrated list. With an average price of 1.45 million rubles for a ten-year-old car, Corolla turns out to be more expensive than both Octavia and Jetta, although it is inferior to them in size. In addition, on the Russian market the model was sold exclusively with a variator, which, according to experts, often fails after 150 thousand kilometers.
