The Wroom.ru portal tried to clarify the fate of the reincarnation project of the famous domestic brand. In May, at the Digital Industry of Industrial Russia exhibition, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin was shown three prototypes of the revived Volga cars, created jointly with the Chinese brand Changan. It was stated that production would begin before the end of 2024, but the plan did not materialize.

The Volga brand website was not launched for seven months, and colleagues were unable to contact the Passenger Car Production company: both phone calls and email requests went unanswered. In May, it was assumed that the line would consist of two crossovers and a sedan, which resembled the original models of the Changan concern.

In the spring, it was believed that assembly with welding and painting of bodies would be organized at the site of the Nizhny Novgorod automobile cluster, with the first cars supposed to roll off the assembly line in 2024. Neither the regional authorities, nor the federal media, nor representatives of the Gorky Automobile Plant have commented on the situation since then. It can be assumed that the project has at least been put on pause, but Changan’s complete refusal to cooperate is also possible.

Not everyone managed to establish rhythmic production together with Chinese brands. For example, AvtoVAZ was unable to come to an agreement with the FAW concern even after the announcement of the Lada X-Cross 5, and they never started assembling Hongqi cars under the Aurus brand.
