The exit from the yard leads onto a one-way road, but this is not marked in any way, and inspectors massively fine violators. The head of the Russian traffic police told what to do in this case.

A reader of the magazine “Behind the wheel” from St. Petersburg complained about a situation where the exit from the courtyard of a residential building adjoins a one-way road. He complained that traffic police inspectors massively prosecute drivers who turn into it in the wrong direction. The head of the Russian State Traffic Safety Inspectorate, Mikhail Chernikov, admitted that a road sign with the direction of travel in such a situation must be placed.

“In the situation you described, there appears to be a violation of the mandatory requirements contained in the national standard GOST R 52 289−2019 “Technical means of traffic management. Rules for the use of road signs, markings, traffic lights, road barriers and guide devices,” Chernikov answered a question from a magazine reader.

He added that according to the current GOST, “Exit to a one-way road” signs indicating the direction must be installed at all exits to a one-way road. If there is no sign, the head of the traffic police advised to contact local authorities or the local traffic police department.
