This will help reduce the number of accidents involving cars and pedestrians. This is what Artem Sheikin, first deputy chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building, thinks so. His words are reported by TASS.
In his opinion, the current situation creates a conflict on pedestrian infrastructure, as a result of which vulnerable groups of the population, including children and pensioners, feel insecure.
“Clarification of the parameters for the movement of SIM and bicycles on sidewalks and bike paths is not an infringement of anyone’s rights, but an attempt at a civilized division of space. This is not about prohibiting, but about regulating. Clear rules and speed limits in areas where pedestrians are concentrated will help reduce the number of collisions and injuries,” said Sheikin.
According to the speaker, the key task is to develop and implement the necessary infrastructure: organizing dedicated lanes for personal mobility equipment (PIM) and creating clear navigation that will inform users about the permitted traffic zones and areas where it is necessary to dismount.
