The malfunction was found in new Tundra pickups in gasoline and hybrid versions. The disappearing image from the rear view cameras is a safety hazard given the size of this vehicle.
The recall, reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), affects 2024 and 2025 Toyota Tundra and Tundra Hybrid pickups.
“The Japanese automaker said in a statement that under certain conditions, the infotainment display in the subject vehicles may freeze on the camera image or display a black image, potentially causing it to fail to meet federal safety standards,” Reuters noted.
Previously, the Korean automaker Hyundai announced a recall campaign for 84 thousand cars for similar reasons. Due to a software error when recording data, widespread failures of digital instrument panels in Genesis sedans and crossovers occurred.
