The LF-LC concept, presented in 2012, was so bold that few believed in its serial future. However, Toyota President and Lexus chief driver at the time, Akio Toyoda, set a goal – to create an emotional flagship coupe that continues the spirit of the LFA supercar.
Lexus To bring the concept to life, Lexus took a new approach: designers worked on each line (especially the roof) for months, and only then engineers looked for ways to technically implement them.
Lexus The production of the model was launched at the Japanese Motomachi plant – the same “manufactory” where the LFA is assembled by hand.
Lexus The “floating” roof is created by combining a glass panoramic sunroof and darkened pillars. A carbon fiber roof is available as an option, using technology inherited from the LFA.
Lexus The key features of the concept – a swift profile, a long wheelbase and short overhangs – were transferred to the series. The signature false radiator grille received a 3D mesh that changes the visual perception.
Lexus Ultra-thin three-layer LED headlights and L-shaped daytime running lights have become the new hallmark of the brand. The rear lights use mirrors to create a three-dimensional effect.
Lexus Designed for Gran Turismo, the LC not only offers aesthetics, but also a small boot with a capacity of 197 liters. The convertible, contrary to expectations, retained an acceptable 150 liters.
Lexus Each body line has a function: the rear air ducts direct air flow along the wheels for stabilization, while the almost completely smooth underbody and muffler shaped like a diffuser improve aerodynamics.
Lexus During the update, the model received minimal adjustments: a new Iridium color and strengthening of the chassis elements for a little more rigidity.
Lexus Despite the flashy design, critics noted the LC’s understated styling. Over time, the eye focuses on the harmony of proportions rather than on aggressive details.
Lexus Front seats with developed lateral support and 8-mode electrical adjustment provide comfort on long trips. For the convertible, a warm air neck blowing system was added.
Lexus The driver’s seat is placed as close as possible to the car’s center of gravity for a better feel of the road. The low dashboard and narrow pillars provide excellent visibility.
Lexus The digital instrument panel with a central movable ring is a direct reference to the LFA supercar. The 8-inch display can be moved to the side to provide access to on-board computer data.
Lexus A premium Mark Levinson audio system with 13 speakers was created specifically for the LC500’s interior acoustics.
Lexus The multifunction steering wheel with leather and satin metal trim is ergonomic. The massive magnesium paddle shifters are easy to find with your fingertips.
Lexus The active wing, which appears at speeds above 80 km/h, not only adds sportiness, but also actually reduces lift, increasing stability at high speeds.
Lexus The 10-speed automatic transmission selector and the driving mode dial (Eco, Normal, Sport S/S+) are neatly integrated into the dashboard visor.
Lexus The “heart” of the LC 500 is a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 with 477 hp. – a challenge to the turbine era. And, of course, the advanced 10-speed automatic transmission that debuted on the production car.
Lexus The compact rear multi-link is complemented in the optional list with the Lexus Dynamic Handling (LDH) system. It actively helps turn the rear wheels to improve maneuverability at low speeds and stability at high speeds.
Lexus The double wishbone front suspension with double ball joints ensures precise handling, tracking even the slightest steering movements and bumps. Most of the levers are aluminum to reduce unsprung mass.
Lexus The convertible, which debuted in 2019, retained its graceful lines. The soft top folds down in 15 seconds, even at 50 km/h, and Climate Concierge automatically adjusts the climate and heating for comfort with the top down.
Lexus Eight years after its debut, the LC 500 still looks like the car of the future. It shows that a bold concept can become a design icon.

This coupe is one of the most beautiful and iconic design icons of the last decade, and it goes down in history. The flagship, born from a daring concept on the personal instructions of Akio Toyoda, will be discontinued in August of this year. In the era of “daysizing”, this naturally aspirated monster defied the turbine age with its signature V8 roar. Our photo essay is a tribute to Lexus design and engineering.
