Spies have repeatedly noticed that Mercedes-Benz is testing the small Gelendvagen, a compact crossover most often called the “Baby G.” Previously, it was assumed that the “compact” would become an electric car: this can be judged by the muted radiator grille. But now other information has appeared.

Recently, pure electric cars have been losing sales to hybrids. And now Mercedes is rethinking its development strategy, with recent reports indicating that the company is considering adding a hybrid option.

It would be most logical to use the four-cylinder 1.5 turbo engine of the M252 series – this engine is the first-born of the new FAME (Family of Modular Engines) family, in the development of which a division of the Chinese group Geely took part.

This unit is usually powered by an eight-speed preselective “robot”, which has a built-in 48-volt electric motor with a power of 27 hp. The lithium-ion battery has a small capacity so that the battery fits under the driver’s seat.

The former Toyota plant is setting up production of a new model. Belarusian “Luch” has developed a special watch for taxi drivers. The new Zeekr 8X will offer 1,400 horsepower for 4.5 million rubles.

Meanwhile, Geely showed the Galaxy Cruiser SUV, which will compete with the Land Rover Defender. It is expected that the official premiere of the new product on the domestic market will take place before the end of 2026.
