This happened despite the fact that in 2022 the German automaker stopped official deliveries and sales of cars in Russia. The application to register the Mercedes-Benz trademark was filed last year. The registration issue was resolved positively.

“The application for registration was submitted to the Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent) on September 10, 2025 from Germany. The trademark is registered in two classes of the International Classification of Goods and Services (ICGS), which include, among other things, various types of cars and their repairs,” reports TASS.

The head of Rospatent, Yuri Zubov, explained in an interview with the agency that various famous foreign brands are trying to register and renew the registration of their trademarks in Russia so that no one can sell goods under the guise of products of the copyright holder of the mark.

The Mercedes-Benz representative office in the Russian Federation opened on August 1, 1994. In 2019, the German automaker launched its own plant in Yesipovo near Moscow, investments in its creation amounted to 19 billion rubles. The brand’s dealer network covered the entire country. In October 2022, the concern announced the sale of shares in five Russian subsidiaries to the Avtodom dealer holding. The deal was closed by April 2023: the assets were transferred to the new owner, and the company changed its name to JSC MB RUS. Warranty obligations to the owners of officially imported cars remain.

Earlier it became known what would happen in Russia with the Chinese brand Wey.
