Toyota has carried out a planned update of petrol modifications of the Land Cruiser 250 frame SUV for Japan (known as the Land Cruiser Prado in foreign markets). The appearance and power units of the car remain the same, but the list of electronic assistants has expanded significantly. Sales of the updated cars in Japan started on April 3.

The main innovation is the integration of the Toyota Teamate complex, which helps the driver in long traffic jams. At low speeds, the car independently takes control of the gas, brakes and steering, reducing driver fatigue in dense city traffic. A camera on the steering column analyzes the driver’s gaze and head position to ensure he remains in control.

The SUV also learned to change lanes independently. The function works at speeds of 60 km/h and above; to automatically change lanes, just turn on the turn signal. Another electronic assistant ensures maneuvering at intersections and parking exits, warning of vehicles and pedestrians approaching in the transverse direction. If a threat of collision arises (for example, if the driver did not have time to react to a car suddenly braking in front), the electronics are capable of not only braking, but also gently steering to the side to avoid the impact.

The front seats are now equipped with electrical adjustments (8 directions for the driver, 4 for the passenger), and the driver’s seat has memory settings. Under the hood is a 2.4-liter turbo engine, which is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Its power is 281 hp. The hybrid powertrain with the same engine and 48-volt starter-generator produces 331 hp.
