Two sites in the northern capital have already resumed work: Avtozavod St. Petersburg on the site of the former Nissan plant and Avtozavod AGR on the territory previously occupied by Hyundai, RIA Novosti reports.
“In 2026, all automobile factories previously abandoned by foreign companies will be restarted; the site of the former Toyota plant in Shushary is no exception,” St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
He also emphasized that the industrial potential of St. Petersburg in the automotive industry is now fully in demand by the country.
According to him, together with the federal government, the city is consistently restarting production at all facilities left by Western automakers after the start of a special military operation, using the most effective tools for this.
