If the clutch fails, the car can be towed to a service center in neutral gear. Vadim Strelbitsky, director of the mechanical repair department at Avilon Kia, told Rossiysky Gazeta about this.
“If it is not possible to deliver the car to a service station using a tow truck, then it is possible to tow it with another car in neutral gear, observing all the rules and precautions,” the expert said.
According to him, there is also an extreme method – only if there is a real threat to life. With the car turned off, you should engage second gear, then start the engine – the car will start and drive. This way you can slowly get to the service or evacuation site. To stop, you need to turn off the engine and press the brake.
Strelbitsky noted that this method is justified only in the most extreme case – provided that the driver is confident in his skills and is able to control the road situation. The maneuver is dangerous both for himself and for others, especially in heavy traffic, so it is not recommended to use it on public roads.
