Motorists can save money by choosing non-original spare parts for car repairs, but the risks of buying counterfeits increase. Vadim Strelbitsky, director of the mechanical repair department at Avilon Kia, spoke about this in an interview with Motor magazine. He divided parts into three quality levels and warned that cheap auto parts are often unpredictable, and scammers counterfeit even high-quality non-original ones.

“Parts of a high level of production are practically not inferior in characteristics to the original ones, but their price is only slightly lower. Mid-level products already provide noticeable savings, but they have some differences in parameters and quality – as a rule, non-critical, which allows them to be used. Finally, low-level parts are usually very cheap, but sometimes sellers, trying to pass them off as higher quality, inflate the price several times,” the expert said.

According to him, with parts of the latter category, problems often arise at the installation stage, therefore the further service of such spare parts is unpredictable.

Strelbitsky notes that the main problem of the auto parts market remains the high share of counterfeit products. Fraudsters counterfeit not only original parts, but also high-quality non-original parts of medium and high level, replacing them with cheap products from unknown brands. At the same time, it is often difficult even for a professional to distinguish a fake, especially if you focus only on the packaging.
