The vehicle debuted as part of the Wey lineup in 2020 as the Wey Tank 300 and quickly became popular in its home country of China. In 2021, a separate Tank brand was created, and in the spring of 2023, Tank 300 began to be officially sold here, said Za Rulem expert Ilya Khlebushkin.

The specialist notes that the main advantages of the car are the transmission: the eight-speed hydraulic automatic ZF 8HP50 (considered durable, but requires an oil change every 60 thousand km, despite the “maintenance-free” status) and all-wheel drive (part-time or with a BorgWarner clutch) do not cause serious complaints.

However, the body and frame present surprises: despite the fact that the external elements are galvanized, the roof has a thin paintwork (about 100 microns) and is easily chipped, and the non-galvanized closed frame is prone to corrosion from the inside, especially in the area of the welds and rear cross member.

The VIN marking on the side member also rusts very quickly – this can create problems during registration. Other shortcomings include: sagging of the fifth door due to the heavy spare tire, the vagaries of the electric trunk lock in wet weather, creaking in the cabin after 50-80 thousand kilometers, short-lived steering wheel and gearshift trim, as well as eco-leather seats that wear out quickly. The sunroof is also leaky – the upholstery of the roof panel gets wet due to poor drainage.

The GSM module unit and the fuel level sensor are also faulty. The media system slows down or reboots.

The GW E20SV engine (2.0 l, 220 hp) has a service life of about 250 thousand kilometers, but is prone to stretching the timing chain after 120-150 thousand kilometers, suffers from carbon deposits on the valves and can overheat due to a clogged “sandwich” (radiator, intercooler, condenser).

The steering shaft can creak after 50-70 thousand kilometers, the electrical part of the steering suffers from corrosion of contacts and connectors.

Fuel consumption in the city reaches 16-17 liters. The suspension is classic for an SUV, but shock absorbers and wheel bearings last 80-120 thousand kilometers, and brake pads only last 15-40 thousand kilometers (front) and 30-60 thousand kilometers (rear), the specialist noted.
