The launch of the Kaluga plant is part of a new industry development model, aimed not at restoring old chains, but at forming an independent technological base in Russia, the AGR press service noted.

The enterprise is located on an area of 32 thousand square meters. m, has begun serial assembly of modern turbocharged engines of the 1.6 liter (150 and 197 hp), 1.5 liter (147 hp) and 2.0 liter (197-249 hp) family, the company noted.

To restart the plant, a large-scale modernization was carried out: 9 collaborative robots (cobots) were installed, new technological operations were introduced, and a cylinder head pre-assembly line was created. Quality control is integrated at all stages – engines are checked for leaks, electronic systems are tested and tested on brake stands.

Already now, local components are used in the assembly, including pistons and spark plugs from Russian suppliers. At the first stage, the capacity is 150 thousand engines per year, about 500 jobs have been created.

In the second half of 2026, it is planned to start machining the block and cylinder head. In the future, the production area may be tripled, which will allow production of up to 300 thousand engines per year, reports the AGR press service.
