The report emphasizes that “for two consecutive quarters there has been a year-on-year decline in sales.” The state of the dealer network is of particular concern: “car sellers do not make money on sales, but not selling is costly for themselves; manufacturers can no longer subsidize them,” reports IT Home.

According to data from the Joint Passenger Vehicle Committee of China, cited by IT Home, in just one month, 1.4 million cars were sold in China – this is 20% less than in April last year, and 15% lower than in March 2026.

Since the beginning of the year, total retail sales amounted to 5.6 million units, which is 18% less than for the same period in 2025.

At the same time, the market for electric vehicles and hybrids is doing noticeably better. In April, 883 thousand new energy vehicles (NEVs) were sold. This is only 5% less than a year ago and 4% more than in March 2026.

It was previously reported that Toyota sales have increased sharply in Russia.
