When purchasing a used car, you should pay attention to its technical condition, legal cleanliness and the possibility of further maintenance. Alexander Shaprinsky, commercial director of the Pragmatika dealership network, spoke about this in a conversation with Gazeta.Ru.

“Some categories of machines are more often associated with risks. For example, cars with legal problems: in more than 40% of cases, a history check reveals liens, traffic police restrictions, road accidents, and more. Cars that are under arrest or wanted cannot be registered,” the expert said.

According to him, you should avoid cars that have been in serious accidents, fires or floods. Damage to the body, electronics and persistent odors (for example, mud or burning) in such cases cannot be eliminated.

Particular attention should be paid to vehicles with unreadable VIN numbers. If at least one of the five possible marking elements is damaged or cannot be read, it will not be possible to register the car with the traffic police. It is also not recommended to purchase cars with frequent changes of owners: a large number of owners in the history may indicate hidden faults.

Shaprinsky recommends paying attention to the vehicle’s operating history. If the car was used in a taxi or car sharing, its wear and tear is higher, which means the cost will be lower compared to similar models on the market.
