To restore your driver’s license after deprivation, you will need to retake the theoretical traffic rules exam. Automotive lawyer Lev Voropaev spoke about this in a conversation with Gazeta.Ru. He emphasized that if the license was revoked for persistent violations, the driver would have to undergo additional checks.
“In 2026, after deprivation of a driver’s license, it is necessary to take an exam on knowledge of traffic rules. If we are talking about deprivation for driving while intoxicated, for refusing a medical examination or for drinking alcohol after an accident, then in such cases, in addition to passing the exam, additional consequences are provided,” the lawyer noted.
According to him, in such cases, the driver, in addition to passing the exam, needs to undergo a medical examination and issue a certificate – the same as during the initial issuance of a license. In addition, before contacting the traffic police, you must pay off all outstanding fines. Only after this can you submit documents to restore the right to drive.
