The Russian legal system is structured in such a way that the driver does not always have a legal way out of a difficult situation. Thus, the clause of the traffic rules obliging to give way to special vehicles directly contradicts the ban on driving beyond the stop line, notes the head of the working group of the NF “Protection of the Rights of Motorists” Pyotr Shkumatov.
“The soulless algorithms of cameras recording violations record only a dry fact: the car crossed the stop line – get a fine. Was there an ambulance there or not? The burden of proving one’s innocence is shifted entirely onto the shoulders of the car owner,” notes Shkumatov.
According to the auto expert, manufacturers of violation detection systems need to update the algorithms of traffic cameras to make it possible to monitor such situations.
Another option for the development of events proposed by Shkumatov is the introduction of clear clauses that exempt drivers from liability for forced actions
