In 2004, the then new Porsche Carrera GT was tested on a German track for Sport Auto magazine: the sports car completed a lap in 7 minutes and 32 seconds. 20 years later, the Carrera GT again took to the starting line of the Nürburgring, and this time it showed a result of 7 minutes and 12 seconds. The same car, the same track, but the difference is as much as 20 seconds! And all because this time Carrera was shod in the newest and more grippy Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

The Carrera GT is powered by a naturally aspirated 5.7-liter V10 engine that develops 612 horsepower. Power is transmitted to the rear axle through a six-speed manual transmission. From the factory, the Carrera GT was equipped with special Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires, which in 2013 were offered to be replaced with fresh Pilot Super Sport, and in 2024 with Pilot Sport Cup 2. Marked N0, these tires have better grip and an optimized contact patch .

Porsche Carrera GT received new tires Ten answers to shameful questions about the Nurburgring The Mercedes-AMG One super hybrid has become the fastest production car at the Nurburgring. Again

There are few details about the race yet – they will appear in the next issue of the German Sport Auto. For now, it is known that the Carrera GT was piloted by Porsche team driver Jörg Bergmeister. A video appeared on the Sport Auto YouTube channel about how the race took place – the video included the moment when Bergmeister apparently slightly scratched the front of the vintage sports car on the curb at the end of the Döttinger Höhe straight.

In October of this year, it became known that Porsche promised Carrera GT owners to replace the suspension parts and install Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires on the cars – the same ones that were used at the Nurburgring. As for the suspension, degradation of the original chassis is possible under the influence of salt due to corrosion, but most cars are unlikely to drive on roads with reagents in winter.

From 2003 to 2007, Porsche produced 1,270 Carrera GT supercars.
