The Geely Tugella crossover appeared in Russia at the end of 2020. More than four years have passed, and the model has remained almost unchanged since then-the largest update was the recent change of the name on Knewstar 001. Of course, there was still restyling in 2022, but its scale was negligible. Meanwhile, the car is expensive-even for the basic version with a 200-horsepower engine you will have to give about 4 million. Therefore, is there now sense in the purchase of such an old model when the market is full of fresh alternatives from other brands?
I wanted to figure out this question after I had a fleeting experience with Knewstar 001 on the shooting of Jaecoo J7. In order not to get up twice, our photographer Slava Krylov asked to slip on the camera at the same time on his test Newstar. And I forgot how cool this long -cele and therefore does not cause much interest the car can go.
By the way, at one time, the counting point for then Tugell in a comparative test was Tiguan itself. And even in comparison with the almost reference German crossover, the Swedish-Chinese model was not lost. Now the Tiguans are not found in Russia, but a great many alternatives from China have appeared on the market. But not one of them causes vivid positive emotions on the move – at best, they are simply absent.

And the Knewstar 001 is unique just how much a Europeanly thoroughly rides. At the same time, it has a whole bouquet that is not related to the movement of the congenital shortcomings of Tugell – it seems not to be the most convenient planting, not too functional multimedia system or ascetic interior decoration. Now large brands are almost never doing. But in sled properties, most new and modern competitors are still far from Newstar. If you try to characterize 001 in one word, then it will be light.

Moreover, in all meanings: the Crosser compartment literally easily moves, accelerates and slows down. There are no delays between the driver’s teams and their performance (with the exception of slight indecision when touched); There is no disagreement between the motor and the automatic machine; And the reaction of the car to any control pulse is always the same as you expect from it.
For example, the accelerator is tuned so that he touched the pedal – I immediately went. But he did not fly, as scalded, as is often in cars with an acute gas pedal. And, as a rule, it is also accompanied by the lack of a real power supply. And here such a reserve is really available, and it is convenient to manage it.

With the brake pedal, it is also not necessary to guess how deep it is to push it to the desired slowdown. The braking begins immediately after a light touch, and its intensity clearly progresses as the pressure forces on the pedal, and not the depth of pressing on it, increase first of all.
The ease of steering is that the mechanism gives enough feedback, but does not tire with excess density or heaviness. And the measure is an acute gear ratio optimally from the point of view of the balance of comfort and accuracy. Here, everything that the driver interacts is configured humanly.

And this is really one of the few models that will not let the active driver get bored in winter. A universal everyday car, which at the same time glides gorgeously due to the high -quality tuning of all -wheel drive and the main controls. The driver has complete confidence and control over the angle, trajectory, traction.
It is quite difficult to straighten up the reversal or pronounced a reversal or in the depths if, in principle, you understand how to manage a full -wheel drive in winter. Knewstar allows you to enjoy and increase the level of driver’s skills – which of the competitors is capable of this?

All this evokes associations with the good old BMW or Volkswagen. But only if European brands have continuity and stability from model to model and from generation to generation (it is always clear what kind of nature to expect from the car), then Geely is not so. This is the only driver and balanced model in the line of the Chinese brand. And the main difference between the Knewstar 001 and the “Europeans” is an ergonomic bedroom that reigns in the cabin and lubricates the feeling of lightness of being with this crossover.

The interior does not shine with design. The relief of the front panel is formed by randomly floating surfaces. Materials and textures are simple, primitive decor – a two -tone contrasting line, “ancient Egyptian” patterns on steeps and a striped aquaprint on plastic panels, unconvincingly imitating brushing. In the interior decoration, the noble Alcantara is also used – but not in the places where it should be. The instrument shield also leaves a double impression. It seems that readability is not bad and even there is a classic layout with round scales. But all three “skins” are dubious (red, blue and hacks) – it looks cheap graphics and color solutions. In addition to this, in the center of the tidy, a huge empty field with non -closed visualization of traffic is Chinese classics.
At the same time, the Knewstar 001 function monitor the dead zones is brilliantly implemented in the projection display. The surrounding machines are depicted by dynamic points of changing size and color. It is intuitively clear, so duplication of this information flickering on the dashboard, and even to the detriment of general clarity – the solution is unsuccessful.

There are enough physical keys in the cabin-for some reason, they even made an adjustment of the passenger chair at the end of the back. At the same time, the buttons were regretted for heating the seats! We have to wait until the multimedia is loading first, then remember how to get to this function faster and go through some levels of menu nuclear on.
Another small miscalculation is a platform for a smartphone of such modest sizes that a modern flagship gadget with a large screen does not fit on it normally. Fortunately, wireless charging with a spacious platform is located tier below, under the central console. Although such a decision can not be called convenient – modern competitors have no problems with this.

A separate pain is a transmission selector on which the Parking buttons and unlocks are under the thumb and forefinger, respectively. And it is completely impossible to remember which of the keys is responsible for what function. Okay, if you poke into the parking instead of unlocking – just the beginning of movement will linger for a couple of seconds.
And if, on the contrary, you parked and you need to get into the Parking Poshyshn, but will you stay in the program? So you can rinse into the fence. Finally, the main drawback is landing. The chair was installed too high, the pillow is too short, and the steering wheel is not adjusted by departure – so -so a combination in a car for 4 million rubles.

But the most amazing thing is that you get used to most of the similar “features” with which it is difficult to put up in other cars. Knewstar 001 seems to say: let you forget these buttons, let’s go better to ride! And how many times have I suffered from landing in different winding cars, but this did not cancel the pleasure of managing them. So here – you can live with this, because the driving process brings pleasure more than on average in assortment in this class of crossovers.

And it is not necessary to go quickly. Even during routine movements around the city, the suspension pleases with how tightly and at the same time it works comfortably with the road. Together with decent noise insulation, this gives the “road” corporal compartment. On occasion, you can also be tagged – maybe not 6.9 to hundreds here, but there are bright emotions from dispersal. Because this is primarily an ordinary crossover for life, and not a car of the sport or premium category.
Having become Newstar 001, Geely Tugella did not acquire anything, but did not lose. Except for a significant loss of a couple of shades of body (red and gray-blue) and active blinds of the radiator in the front bumper. The design of the nasal part is an exclusively taste, but I like it no less than Tugell, there are some added brutality in these lines.

There are three sets, but only the maximum looks reasonable. Because the basic is devoid of many really cool solutions – combined finishes (no matter how strange it is implemented), a projection display (with a chic indication of blind zones), the system of monitoring the blind areas and at the same time all the other assistants. Finally, Bose acoustics – and not because it is so good (alas, it sounds pale for Bose), just the basic “music” is not good at all.

At the price of a car, there are more than 4 million and the difference in the base and average configuration of 230 thousand to save their meaning – the differences in equipment, decor and various amenities are too significant. But the difference between the average execution with the engine of 200 forces and the top with a capacity of 238 hp. Even less – 100 thousand rubles.
