Even sometimes, the community is rather far -fetched – well, after all, it is necessary to find it, it cannot but be! But there is another option, a good example of which is the restyled Hongqi HS5 with a new one.

This is when the manufacturer (usually Asian) when developing his model is inspired by the solutions of another manufacturer – usually European or American. But it does not be blindly copying, but a creative interpretation. When communicating with such a car, a feeling of unobtrusive, but confident deja vu arises. Because he only does not depict the source, but seeks to reproduce his spirit. And if the “role model” is selected successful, then the attitude towards it is also projected onto the follower.

Hongqi HS5 News clearly cosplay Audi Q5 – that is, a comfortable, prestigious, well -balanced European crossover. But how organic is the “Chinese” in such a role, is it drawn to the declared level? Explicit similarity in the appearance is not noticed, but the silhouette and proportions of the downed, rounded body of Audi are guessed. Only the nasal part introduces some disharmony into the appearance of the HS5 New – with a sudden long overhang and angular grate.

The monumental radiator “grill” is divided in half by molding, which ends only somewhere in the center of the hood. During driving, this inverted “keel” serves the driver with a kind of “sight” – about the same as a Mercedes star. And when unlocking the doors to the doors, scarlet flashes spectacularly run along it-it would seem that the outer light show is now not surprising, but Hongqi did it.

The architecture and materials of the interior decoration are so strict that at first they evoke longing. It is morally difficult to be gray in the Moscow winter inside fifty shades of gray. But the convenience of use and the high quality of the finish largely compensate for this splendor. So, upon closer examination, everything that seems to be depicting metal is metal and is.

A somewhat old -fashioned interior design is only good to the car, because this is precisely what causes associations with the Audi models of the middle of the “tenths”. Even the Bose audio system here turned out to be surprisingly impressive (not as an example of the New Boose) – with a bright wide range and powerful deep bass. I was so carried away by traveling with music that I even forgot to pay attention to sound insulation – is this not an indicator? Later, of course, I checked: acoustic comfort is sufficient, but not outstanding.

In general, this is just a well -thought -out interior space, not spoiled by dubious decorations and unusual for the sake of unusual. Yes, it does not look too intricate, but the functionality is on top. Even the seats are quite good – neither the profile nor the length of the pillow cause questions. But no more – just normal chairs. There is an electric drive of the steering column and all heating. Great visibility. From this idyll, only a cheap interior panel with a pair of screens falls – not glittering either interfaces or functionality.

The tidy pleases with a pleasant Mercedes graphic graphics of round scales. But only while the transmission selector is in the Parking position. It is worth turning on the “drive”, as the scales turn into something elongated, turned upside down and cut off at the same time – an inexplicably strange solution.

And the multimedia complex located to the right is obsolete, with weak filling, translation into Russian, the organization of functions and even the mediocre sensitivity of the display. But you can use it without difficulty – just without pleasure too.

There is a lot of spaciousness in the HS5 News salon on both rows and in all dimensions. Behind, the conditions are generally almost limousine due to a huge wheelbase of 2870 mm – this is 50 mm more than that of the same Q5. And 70 more than EXEED RX. In addition, the sensation of large space is created by a light upholstery of the ceiling.

The solution is not the most fashionable, but it is suddenly appropriate here – a good contrast with dominant grayness is obtained. In the trunk, everything is also great: the compartment is voluminous, equipped with a pocket with a net and an underground with a complement, inside which a subwoofer lives. Well, what not Audi!

So far, in the statics of the Chinese Q5, it is quite worthy of imitating the German model. But will this state of affairs be preserved in motion? There are prerequisites for this: for example, a 2-liter turbo engine with confident indicators of 245 hp. and 380 N ∙ m, as well as an 8-speed machine and all-wheel drive.

But in fact, the Hongqi HS5 New in most modes rides with a lazy one. The start is always sluggish due to the delay in the pedal reaction (just like in the diesel Audi ecology), followed by an untimely and too sharp jerk. Alas, this feature of behavior is not even treated by a sports regime.

The latter forces the motor to respond more actively to the push of the accelerator, but already in the process of acceleration, and the initial hitch remains anyway. Moreover, it is so significant that it often interferes with confidently integral traffic. And now, the driver who had shown generosity with a short blink of headlights regretted his gesture of goodwill – he himself manages to press the back while the “sloppy” on Hongqi will deign to accelerate. With such a gas and brake pedal is not needed.

Acceleration in most modes occurs as if through force, although just the strength of the motor is enough. This is easy to check by drowning the accelerator deeper. The traction is powerful and confident – to all the declared indicators. It’s just difficult to get to it, there is no lightness and instructions of acceleration. And when the gas is discharged, it is not felt lightness of the roll, the car does not seem to obey the power of inertia, but slows down with the help of recovery (which is not and cannot be here).

The all -wheel drive is also far from the “audit”: the front axle regularly slips even with quite calm driving. An unpleasant sensation of in vain spent fuel, spikes and roadways. I did not have to remember for a long time what the Hongqi transmission habits are similar – the Cadillac XT5 acted in frontly in front. Part of this association is the handling of a Chinese car.

Which has little in common with the German crossover, but quite similar to the habits of the American. HS5 New turns adequately, of course, stably, but completely not interesting. Moderate sadness is present, and the drive and excitement are completely absent. At the same time, HS5 cannot be called unresponsive or rocker – it just performs maneuvers, completely without causing emotions.

It’s even more difficult to say something about the suspension. In a test machine, she worked just toothbrushes. By coincidence, a colleague from another edition was on a test drive exactly the same car-and his car behaved completely differently. The suspension worked normally, successfully dealing with any road relief. Nothing outstanding, just an adequate balance of comfort and energy intensity. But the arithmetic mean of two machines is incomprehensible.

Hongqi servicemen did not reveal mechanical anomalies in my test car, referring to the sports regime of adjustable shock absorbers. But I am inclined to consider this behavior a breakdown, since the second similar Hongqi even in “sports” rode much softer. And mine felt even more stone than the BMW M4 with a maximum of racks, can there be such a suspension setup from a working city crossover?

Throughout the test drive, I tried to abstract from a reference sitting in my head and considering HS5 New as an independent car, and not as a “Chinese Q5”. Because its role -playing Hongqi model resembles only fragmentically, episodes. But he did not find a whole of his own nature. Instead – here and there are manifestations of bipolarity.

He tries to look modest, but a la Rolls-Royce protrudes. The interior is frankly dull, but not devoid of premium, but in terms of convenience exceeds most Chinese and not only modern machines. There is a sporting and a powerful motor, but there is no ability to move easily and dynamically. There is good comfort, but there are absolutely no impressions of staying behind the wheel.

In fact, the Hongqi HS5 New acts in its own class and does not have direct competitors. The nearest analogue is seen by the avant -garde exeed RX. But the Hongqi crossover is addressed to adherents of traditional forms and values, and not Haytek and futurism. HS5 is not cheap – 4.6 or 5.2 million rubles in two equipment. And it is not at all the fact that it makes sense to pay for the maximum: after all, NAPPA with Alcantara, a panoramic roof, Bose, a projector, wireless charging, heating, an electric bastard and the main assistants are already in the youngest!

Having paid 600 thousand for the top version, we get an expanded package of electric drives (a comfortable entrance-output, lowering mirrors during the rear, active blinds of the radiator, electrical steering column, contactless access to the trunk), as well as adaptive shock absorbers (obviously not inspiring confidence during the test), an advanced cruise and a couple of assistants.
