The Chinese Cars portal claims that a Vehicle Type Approval (VTA) certificate for the Russian-made Jaecoo J7 has appeared in the open Rosstandart database. From the documents it follows that the all-terrain vehicle of the Chery concern will be localized at the former General Motors and Hyundai plant in Shushary: this enterprise has not produced cars since 2015.
The American General Motors built the plant in Shushary in 2008; until 2015, various cars of the concern were assembled near St. Petersburg. Then in 2020, the site was bought by the Korean Hyundai, but things did not come to the resumption of production. Now the owner of the plant is Art-Finance: a company associated with the AGR holding (Avilon).
Jaecoo J7: a new crossover from China with a strange name Russian blogger disassembled the Chery flagship: welding is worse than that of a UAZ Test of the Jaecoo J8, a flagship crossover that tries to be more than its price
It is premature to talk about the features of the Russian Jaecoo J7 crossovers: there is no publicly available data yet. Now in our country, Chinese-assembled “sevens” with a 1.6 turbo engine, a preselective 7-speed “robot”, front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive are sold. The length of the Jaecoo J7 is 4.5 meters, that is, we are talking about a classmate of the Volkswagen Tiguan of the bygone generation.
Currently, Jaecoo J7 costs from 2.96 to 4.0 million rubles in Russia. Even if localized in St. Petersburg, you shouldn’t count on a price reduction: the crossover will simply become less expensive. The parent concern Chery already has a joint assembly with AvtoVAZ (XCite brand), and documents have also been drawn up for the assembly of Exeed in the Moscow region.
In Russia they chose the car of the year. Spoiler: he’s Chinese
