They themselves are not in the video, but there you can see the new X3 and the forerunner of modern “three rubles” and “fives” – the BMW 1500 model of the early 60s of the last century. At one time, it laid the foundations for the middle-class sports sedan segment, and the future Neue Klasse should also become just as iconic.

BMW has released a commercial called Das Geschenk (The Gift), which hints at future Neue Klasse models. The main character, the boy Tim, goes with his parents to choose a Christmas gift for his grandmother. He doesn’t like traditional options like a vase and a scarf, so he chooses a postcard and something else. That something turns out to be a child’s car seat. Now Tim has the opportunity to ride with his grandmother in her BMW 1500, because the fun and joy of communicating with loved ones is the best gift.

The use of a 1960s model in the video is by no means accidental. The fact is that the BMW 1500 is the same Neue Klasse, or “new class”, which at one time occupied an empty niche between the compact BMW Isetta, BMW 600, BMW 700 and large sedans like the Barockengel (“Baroque Angel”). Starting in 2025, the “new class” will also refer to a separate family of models based on a new architecture with electric powertrains, including hydrogen fuel cells. The first-born of the modern Neue Klasse will be a compact sedan, competing in the same class as the regular BMW 3 Series, and a sports crossover based on the BMW Vision Neue Klasse X concept.

Interestingly, the characteristic design language of the new family will extend to the entire BMW model range. According to Adrian van Hooydonk, electric cars and fuel models will differ only in proportions and interior design. One of the features of future cars will be the Panoramic Vision head-up display, which uses the entire width of the windshield and allows you to select the data to be displayed. Six Neue Klasse models will be presented until 2028. The first cars will hit the assembly line at the plant in Debrecen, Hungary, in the second half of 2025.
