China, which accounts for about 90 percent of all world supplies of rare -earth metals (RES), introduced restrictions on export. The first Japanese manufacturer to suffer from this solution was Suzuki: the production of most SWIFT versions was paused from May 26.
Suzuki was announced about stopping the production of the Nikkei Asia hatchback. According to insiders, the manufacturer confirmed the information and stated that it would partially restart SWIFT assembly at his factory in Sagar (Kumamoto Prefecture) on June 13.
The release is promised to resume completely after June 16: Suzuki assures that they managed to achieve certainty regarding further supplies from China.

Restrictions on the export of RES from China violated many of the most important supplies for automakers. Alloy from the RMZ are used in the production of magnets, which are supplied with engines for electric cars and hybrids. The PRC also introduced restrictions on the removal of magnets, but to export finished products – motors – is still allowed.
In this regard, large American manufacturers are already considering the possibility of transferring part of production to China. Rare metal metals imported in the United States will be enough for only a few weeks, insiders reported.
