The American car dealership Texas JDM has put up for sale a 2001 Toyota Origin sedan for 41.5 thousand dollars (3.2 million rubles). The reason for such a high price is the uniqueness of the offer. The Origin is one of the rarest production cars of the Japanese brand: from 2000 to 2001, only 1,073 of these cars were made.
The model appeared on the Japanese domestic market in the fall of 2000, when the total volume of Toyota JDM sales reached the hundred million mark. The manufacturer celebrated the significant event with a car created from existing components and with an original body.
The front part is decorated with a whimsically designed radiator grille, and the rear part meets the viewer’s eye with an unexpected combination of spectacular stampings above the wheel arches, narrow vertical lights and a panoramic rear window.

The appearance did not appear out of nowhere: it is a modern interpretation of the design of the 1955 Toyota Crown, the founder of the Crown line. Another historical reference is the rear doors, which swing open against the direction of travel.
Toyota Origin is based on the rear-wheel drive platform of the Toyota Progres sedan, produced from 1998 to 2007. The cars have the same distance between the axles (2780 mm), but the length of the retro car with its 4560 mm is 60 mm longer than its counterpart.
The sedan is equipped with a 2JZ-GE inline six engine with an output of 215 hp. from the Supra model. In the Japanese market, Toyota sold Origin for 7 million yen, which was approximately twice the cost of the Progress platform.
