As Carscoops reports, the expensive car has arrived at a car repair shop in the United States. It quickly became clear that a new gas cap was needed. The diagnosis itself turned out to be simple. But the solution is not very good.
Ordering a new cover through official channels would cost the owner more than $1.2 thousand.
A used version can be found on eBay for $475, but even that seems high for a part that most drivers don’t pay attention to.
While there would likely be plenty of Aventador owners willing to pay that amount, a mechanic looked inside the lid and noticed that the plastic parts were labeled FoMoCo (Ford Motor Company). He found a fuel cap for a Euro-spec Ford Focus Mk2 for just $40 and discovered that the internal plastic components were identical to those used in the Aventador.
The only difference is that Lamborghini “seals” its part into an aluminum body, giving it a premium look and helping to justify the premium, at least on paper.
Repairing the original Lamborghini cover came down to replacing faulty plastic parts with parts from Ford. Thanks to this, the mechanic retained the original metal body, and the cover looks like new. The entire repair cost the owner only $100.
