The final decision on relocating production of the Volkswagen Golf has not yet been made: the future of the model was supposed to be decided at a meeting in November, but more important negotiations with trade unions on staff reductions and plant closures were on the agenda. Handelsblatt sources agree that moving production from Germany is a done deal. However, different options are being considered: the conveyor could move not only to Mexico, but also to Poland. Volkswagen’s updated plan does not rule out the production of a fuel-powered Golf until 2035, but the electric ID.Golf will be released in 2028, and it will replace its predecessor on the assembly line in Wolfsburg.
